Kenster Talks The New (she) HULK

Fellow Geeks! It’s your lovable resident Slowbro here! In case you missed out on some big Marvel news, The next titled Hulk comic series will feature Jennifer Walters as the “new” Hulk.

Jennifer Walters, better known as She-Hulk. Some have asked my thoughts on the news, since I am TTG’s real life Hulk in Human skin.

What else can I say…this is great news!

I honestly believe that this is the next logical step given the events that have transpired so far in Marvel’s Civil War II. ( SPOILER ALERT! ) Continue reading

The Killing Joke Movie Review – Q & Bear!

Ok, so Pedro Bear and I went last night to watch the animated Killing Joke. Having been one of the first comic books that Bear gave me for our Pedro Pimps Pulp segments on our podcast, I was extremely excited when it was being turned into a movie. I was even more excited once the news was let out that it was going to have Mark Hamill, Kevin Conroy and Tara Strong as the voice actors. AND EVEN MORE EXCITED when they decided to go with an “R” rating.

Geek Girl Bloggers Comic Book Swap

As a noob to the whole blogging world it was a blessing to have stumbled upon the Geek Girls x Bloggers  facebook group. For me personally it was wonderful to have such a supportive group willing to help and motivate new bloggers like myself. I quickly found myself trying to follow them all, read every post and most importantly I felt like I wasn’t alone in the struggle to balance my blog with my busy life style.

As a huge comic book fan I was super excited when one of its members, Stacey from Geeks & Lattes suggested a Comic Book Swap between us bloggers. I couldn’t signup fast enough and was excited to see who my swap partner would be! So here’s how it went.

My swap partner was Kayla Cox from Epicfied. I think Stacey did a great job in pairing for one we both have a love for some DC (Harley & Joker) and both into the deep world of Game of Thrones.

Side Note, Funny Story: My life has been crazy with health issues and moving so a part of me had forgotten about the swap. I didn’t forget to get a comic for my partner but I did forget I was receiving something in the mail. My wife was quick to remind me that I had received a package from Amazon and I thought it was just a late birthday present. I rushed to open it and read the cute card instead and still my brain did not register what was happening. Until my wife was quick to snag the note and barrate me on WHO IS KARLA and why is she sending you awesome presents?!?!? LoL. I saw my life quickly flash before my eyes before I realized what the gift was, and how I had requested it on my comic wish list. LoL. I seriously thought my wife was going to bang me over the head with my comic book.

Okay…so once that was all over I was finally able to dance with excitement because Karla could not have picked a better comic for me: The Killing Joke  written by Alan Moore which is also a soon to be released animated movie. I absolutely LOVE this story.

Can you see the excitement in my eyes? I have read this story now about 3 times and still can’t get enough of it. It’s truly one of my top 10 comics of all time. Thank you again Kayla for rocking it and Stacey thank you for putting this together, this is something I would definitely do again!

The Noob – Tales from Forced Bed Rest

What a week it’s been! I recently celebrated a birthday and it seems that my body felt it more than anything else as I slowly started to deteriorate and ended up in the hospital. Now, I’m normally someone who has no concept of naps, down-time or relaxation. If I see an opening on my calendar, I’m eager to fill it. So when the doctor gave me a mandatory 4 days of bed rest I literally almost panicked.

I know what you’re thinking… “well you can read a book, or watch a movie or play some video games.” And…you’re right. That’s exactly what I did for the first few days…

DC’s Rebirth Edition

Tales from a Noob…the Rebirth edition.

Ok, so I know my fair share of geek stuff. I dabble in comic books, toy collection, video games and of course films. But truth is when it comes to the GEEK world, I’m still just a noob. Continuity confuses me, keeping up with comicbook story lines feels like a full time job, and trying to make any sense of that with movie timelines can just be exhausting. But I try. However,  when it comes to comic books, I feel like I’m just set up for failure. Between Crisis’, Wars, and Rebirths I just can’t keep up with the hell is going on.  Continue reading

The End is Nigh? X-Men Apocalypse

Dear Brian Singer,

Would be the introduction to a strongly worded letter from me to Mr. Singer and 20th Century Fox. (cc:Stan Lee Bcc: Jennifer Lawrence, just because)

First things first, Hi there. Hello.

Screen Shot 2015-12-11 at 11.39.12 AM.png

Did you see the new X-men Trailer?
I mean, it’s only been on every page known to geek man since this morning…

Here it is, in case you missed it or would like to relive the Singer Saga teaser over and over and over again…

I hear you, you’re asking “Wait.. Didn’t you like the trailer?”
So, we’re going into this quickly eh? Ok. Here’s my two cents.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m ECSTATIC because I love X-men. I’m all about the Marvel Mutants. OH I’m sorry, Fox Mutants… However, this is a step down from the greatness that was is Days of Future Past. Don’t you think?

Let’s start with the opening scene. Young Jean Gray, frazzled, describing her vision/dream/vision/dream? “I saw the end of the world… I could feel all this… Death.” Cue Ominous pillow…

Screen Shot 2015-12-11 at 11.18.19 AM.png

Cut to some introductory scenes, oh look there’s… that one and that one, and that one in yellow… And then…. that voice? Is it… Apocalypse?

No, no.. no, silly goose. That IS indeed Apocalypse, with more of a violet hue. A Thanos & Mr. Freeze baby child, Grape head… .. if you will…?

Creepy voice? Nope. He’s a regular purple guy lookin’ for god love  in all the wrong places. (Let’s not confuse him with the dashing Killgrave Purple Man… I won’t insert a photo lest I take away X-men’s thunder here.)

Anyhow… Long story short, like the anti-climactic post this is, that’s exactly how the trailer left me. Empty.

EXCITED! I repeat: I love X-men. But Empty.

With nods to the 4 horsemen references of the (wait for it…) Apocalypse, the religious jargon (that makes any geek like me who LOVES a good end of the world film/book/comic/song…), Jennifer Lawrence, Xavier revealed in his egghead GLORY, Jennifer Lawrence, explosions, MORE X-men mutant reveals than we can handle, AND JENNIFER LAWRENCE…

I am STILL HUNGRY. Yes it’s the first trailer, I know. I know. There’s time for more… but… BAH. I’m going to watch X-men: DOFP again while I cry and hold my own hand.
What did YOU think?

Bleep. Bleep.

BTW. Here’s the Cast:
Jennifer Lawrence. That is all.

Starring JLAW and everyone else.

What We’re Reading 01: Adolescent Superman? Sure I’ll take it.

So… this Wednesday DC Comics dropped some new comics and as a Superman fan I was most excited for the new miniseries, “Superman: American Alien” written by Max Landis. You may know Max Landis for writing The Chronicle. The American Alien mini series is in short, a look at the life of Clark Kent through his growing pains. I was excited to pick these up because they aren’t your typical “Superman” stories.

Issue #1 starts off with what I am assuming is about a 10-12 year old Clark who has apparently just started to “sleep-fly”. Yes… sleep fly, it’s a thing. The view of Clark being young and scared about what is happening to him is extremely interesting. We’re all so accustomed to good ol’ Clark Kent, Boy-scout extraordinaire that we really never stop to think about his younger years. Yes, I know, we had Smallville. But that was teenage Clark, not elementary school Clark. I think Man of Steel did a decent job of showing us just a few GalleryComics_1920x1080_20151111_SM_AMALIEN_1_56215152ca16f6.11165523moments inside a young scared Clark but that was just it, just a few minutes and that’s all we got.

This first issue gives you a great look into John and Martha’s true emotions with regards to raising an “un-normal” child (as opposed to “abnormal”). The first issue, I think, really gives you a different look at John specifically. I wasnt sure if he was embarrassed by Clark or worried for him in this debut issue, although his moment of calling Clark a “jerk” was glorious.

By the end of issue 1,  Clark has finally started to gain control of his flying powers. He’s zooming around and finally we get to see the Clark I knew existed inside. Not the superhero waiting to use his powers for the greater good if you will but rather the boy who has realized he can fly and wants to take advantage of it. Dreams of taking free vacations and beating the bus to school.

I have hopes for this mini-series. Nick Dragotta’s art is fantastic. And I don’t usually enjoy Superman art if it isn’t by Jim Lee (Superman Unchained is by far my favorite Superman artwork). Take a look at the image below which is rumored to be part of one of the upcoming issues:

(*source, the internet, of course.)

Really looking forward to that issue ^.

We’ll see how this arc goes. I’ll let you guys know my final thoughts at the close of the series. So stay tuned!

Onyx out!
